Getting Started with Financial Planning is Easier Than You Think
If you’ve ever thought about working with a financial planner, the best time was yesterday. The next best time is right now. You know this, I know this, everybody knows this.
Think about all the things going on in your life with big financial implications. You got married and are still trying to (amicably) combine finances to create synergy. You have kids or are planning to and want to set them up for the future. You’re making more money than you ever thought you’d make and need to figure out how to manage it.
For better or worse, most situations in our lives revolve around money. And nobody teaches us how to properly manage it. Yet you are reluctant to reach out for help. Why? Because the idea of working with a financial planner is daunting. You have to present your entire financial picture—past and current money blunders, salary, savings and investments (or lack thereof), hopes and dreams—to a complete stranger. So the worrying begins: What if they judge me for my spending? What if they poke fun at my meager savings? What if they tell me that I’m way behind?
I get it, this shit can be scary. But you know what’s scarier? Facing these same questions ten years from now. So it’s up to you to work through that first speed bump to get on the road to financial well-being. And while that voice in your head will try to convince you otherwise, I’d like to share how (at least with us) it doesn’t have to be complicated. We make getting financially organized transparent, accessible, and fun. Here’s how:
1. If you work with us, we won’t be strangers.
We’re all about transparency and there’s no topic that we hide from. From my professional and personal life and my own personal struggles to answers everyone should know about their financial advisor. (Here’s a really personal story about my relationship to money that you might relate to.) But we also want to know about you. How else can we make sure the financial plan is reflective of your values and aspirations? That’s why we have a fun and engaging discovery process that’s designed for me to learn a lot about you but also for you to learn more about yourself.
2. You don’t need millions (or even thousands) of dollars to work with us.
Unlike many financial planners, we don’t require asset minimums because we believe that not doing so makes planning more inclusive. We also don’t accept commissions or sell any products. With us, you’ll never feel any pressure to buy things you don’t need so you get unbiased advice that’s only in your best interest.
3. We do a lot more than investing. We do LIFE.
Investing is only one part of a comprehensive financial plan. We offer a variety of financial planning services, from cash flow and debt management to tax planning and selecting benefits at work. In every financial decision you face, we’ll be there to help you think it through. More importantly, we help put a pep in your step by improving other areas of your life. When your life and money aligns with what’s most important to you, you’ll discover what purposeful living is all about. That, my friends, is the real goal of financial planning.
4. Our financial planning won’t cost an arm and a leg.
Many traditional planners charge a percentage of total assets which, not only is confusing, it ends up being a small fortune. We charge a monthly subscription rate that we believe is a more progressive pricing model. It also reduces conflicts of interest. After all, you’re hiring us to make you rich, not the other way around.
As you can see we are not like your parent’s financial advisor. I can’t hit a golf ball and don’t even own a suit. I also think that huge mahogany desks are a waste of money. But when it comes to making you feel like you have a friend in the financial planning industry, we’re second to none. Hopefully you agree that partnering with us should not be intimidating or complicated. But if there is any doubt, please reach out! We’d love to hear from you.
